Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND Fellowship scheme

Strengthening International Research Capacity in Wales (SIRCIW)

The SIRCIW Fellowship programme is a postdoctoral fellowship scheme part funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND scheme. The programme will support up to 90 fellows to work with stellar researchers in Wales.

The scheme is part of the Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales, Professor Julie Williams’ strategy to increase research capacity in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) related subjects. The programme is also open to researchers working in relevant areas of applied social science.

The programme is designed to attract the highest calibre candidates to work in excellent research groups in Welsh Universities Individual researchers, 3 – 5 years post PhD, who have not been resident in the UK for more than 12 months in the last three years, can apply for a fellowship by submitting an outline of the research they would like to carry out within a host institution in Wales. Fellowships will normally be 3 years in length and can involve collaboration with a relevant commercial partner.

The closing date for applications is 1st March 2016 with the aim of fellows starting in autumn 2016. There will be two further calls, the closing dates for which will be announced early next year.

Fellowships are part funded by the European Commission and the Welsh Government, therefore it is vital that applicants contact their potential host institution (who will be providing the rest of the match funding) as soon as possible to discuss their proposed project before submitting an application.

EU-Great! Open Public Consultation

Have you worked on or are planning a Large-Scale Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Initiatives funded by a combination of public and private funds? This is your opportunity to influence policy change to the existing legal and finance framework in Europe, by relaying your experiences and suggestions for improvement.

This public consultation provides the opportunity to stakeholders to communicate their practical experiences of the challenge, barriers and uncertainties they faced. All feedback will be treated confidentially. Industrial stakeholders of large-scale RDI Initiatives, including stakeholders from the research and investor communities, face the task of applying for and administrating multiple projects that have different finance rules, audit requirements, legal frameworks and state- aid implications along with the risks and uncertainties that comes with the research and innovation activities. For regional and national governmental stakeholders they face the task of effectively monitoring progress, managing audits and finance claims as well as tracking outcomes and economic impacts.

This is your opportunity to relay your experience to influence policy change to the existing legal and finance framework in Europe, in order to help stimulate greater investment in large-scale RDI initiatives.

Boosting the financing of large-scale research, development and innovation initiatives across Europe

EuroNanoForum 2015 from June 10th to 12th in Riga, Latvia

The EuroNanoForum 2015 is a meeting point for industry, science and policy.

We would like to invite you to attend these events at EuroNanoForum with a strong connection to NANOfutures:

One of the workshops will be the Value4Nano/NANOfutures workshop. Value4Nano aims at developing an implementation roadmap of 4 value chains and their target products. The workshop will act as the final meeting of the project, which will close in August 2015. The final roadmap will be presented and discussed during this meeting. The event is titled "Nanotechnology and materials in action: Pilot lines and industrial alliances to reach the market" and will be held on June 12th 2015 from 10:30 to 14:00.

Session 9 - "Smart structures and intelligent materials" will be chaired by Communication working group chair Andrea Reinhardt. The session will show some of the latest examples where smart structures and intelligent materials have been applied. It will take place on June 10th from 16:00 to 17:30.

Paula Queipo, chair of the Networking working group, will chair Session 11 - "Nano networks and clusters in Europe – smart specialisation in action". In this session, some of the nano related networks and clusters present their actions and best successes. It will take place on June 10th from 11:30 to 13:00.
