Safety at Euro Nano Forum 2017

Session 15 will present the societal dimension and governance of innovation. Environmental, health and safety issues require careful attention when taking nanotechnology into commercial use. How companies/research organisations deal with EHS aspects will be presented. Safe-by design approach will be discussed together with the regulatory requirements.

Tero Mustonen, Global New Substance Coordinator, Performance Chemicals Division at BASF and Daan Schuurbiers, Founding Director, De Proeffabriek
Keld Alstrup Jensen, Senior Researcher at Danish National Research Centre for the Working Environment and Abdelqader Sumrein, Scientific Officer at Evaluation Unit, European Chemicals Agency will share their experiences. Register now for ENF2017

Survey by the European Centre for Risk Management and Safe Innovation in Nanomaterials & Nanotechnologies

With pleasure we announce the launch of the European Centre for Risk Management and Safe Innovation in nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, EC4safenano. This Centre will be developed over the next three years to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and daily practice by providing services to help others to safely manage this new technology.

To achieve this outcome, we wish to develop a catalogue of services matching the anticipated needs and service requirements to the supply of services from different organizations. The survey has been sent to different stakeholders, including Member States, EC and EC agencies, Industry and bodies representing the general public. We kindly invite you to complete this survey. Your responses will influence the design of the European Centre and ensure:

- that your important issues will be addressed by the Centre
- that the catalogue of services will be relevant
- you can provide services through the Centre, if you wish to do so

Note that answering all questions will take 5-20 minutes. It would be greatly appreciated if you can complete the survey by May 12, 2017.

The results of the survey will be shared with all respondents and discussed in an open workshop prior to the EuroNanoForum on the 20th of June 2017 in Malta

SG Micro- and Nanotechnologies in the Enterprise Europe Network
The Enterprise Europe Network helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make the most of business opportunities in the EU and beyond. Have a look at the many services offered free of charge by our 600 member organisations in more than 60 countries, including chambers of commerce and industry, technology centres, universities and development agencies.
Being our clients’ gateway to relevant business- and cooperation-partners via focussed partnersearch. The group addresses the growing importance of micro- and nanotechnologies, a sector with enormous potential for technology transfer and R&D collaborations and with a rising debate on legislation, policy developments and ethics.

The group objective is to provide specific assistance to industry, research centers and universities by:

• Promoting business-, technological- and research-collaborations
• Understanding the state of art technology fields in competitor countries and through that lifting market barriers
• Maintaining close contact with SMEs for support on innovation and business opportunities
• Raising awareness of new EU policies and regulations

FutureNanoNeeds: Have your say in shaping the next generation of nanomaterials!

NANOfutures is involved in FutureNanoNeeds (, a project funded by the European Commission under FP7. It aims at developing a novel framework to enable naming, classification, hazard and environmental impact assessment of the next generation nanomaterials prior to their widespread industrial use.

As part of the tasks performed by NANOfutures in this project, a set of value chains centred on key nanomaterials has been defined, including general descriptions of nanomaterials in terms of key properties and of the target applications and final products. Also, advantages with respect to state-of-the art materials or competing nanomaterials were summarized and current Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the value chain were also estimated. Market analysis was described in details for each value chains, estimating market size, trends, geographical distribution, and segmentation by technology/material and by application and top companies.

Now, we need your contribution to validate this findings. To do so, please fill in the online survey available here:

We would greatly appreciate your response by April 19th, 2017.
